Practical Spirituality: Values Identification

November 11, 2019 By Tara Moorman, PhD

Practical Spirituality is all about value-based behavior.

Values.  They define who we are as Beings, and we all have them.  We demonstrate our values in every move we make. Thus, we show who WE ARE every time we take action. [Read more…] about Practical Spirituality: Values Identification

Practical Spirituality

November 8, 2019 By Tara Moorman, PhD

What the heck is, Practical Spirituality?

Practical Spirituality is not WHAT or WHO you believe (in) or don’t believe (in).  It is not about your religion. It is not about what happens or doesn’t happen when we die.

None of that is my business. [Read more…] about Practical Spirituality

Abandoning the Self – Justification, Rationalization and Blame

November 5, 2019 By Tara Moorman, PhD

I’ll just jump right into this one.

I’ve been in an emotionally taxing situation in one of my personal relationships.  I’ve had all the feelings – anger, sadness, hurt, guilt, and even shame. It’s been a bit of a bugger, I can tell you.  I may love witnessing and helping others work through their junk, but that doesn’t mean I actually enjoy working through mine all the time.  Sometimes, I’d rather crawl in a hole with a live cobra. I would also love to claim that I don’t have junk to work through anymore, that I’m somehow more evolved than that, but I would be handing you a stinking pile of BS.  So, I’ll keep it to the truth instead: sometimes I hate doing the emotional heavy lifting that healing requires. Some Thoughts on Healing

November 1, 2019 By Tara Moorman, PhD

I was looking for a picture for this post, so I entered the word, healing, into the search engine over at Pixabay.  I wasn’t really surprised by what I found, or what I didn’t find.  The photos were all very light and airy. There were pictures of crystals – especially clear quartz and amethyst, pretty flowers, blue skies, sunshine, a beautiful person offering massage in a lovely space, a svelte yogi in a complicated pose, and a few cannabis leaves.  There were some collections of words – grounded, centered, whole, connected.  Lovely words.

Those kinds of pictures show one part of healing – the part that our consumer culture is really digging on right now.   [Read more…] about Some Thoughts on Healing

Growing a Well-Boundaried Life

September 6, 2019 By Tara Moorman, PhD

woman and shark

Boundary work is one of my favorite subjects.

My rock-solid belief is that living a life with healthy boundaries leads to greater joy, fewer resentments, and more compassion all the way around. I also know that many people, myself included, were not raised with wonderful, healthy, self- and other-compassionate boundary-setting skills.  The truth is, most of the people that find their way to my healing-room-slash-office have had their boundaries violated in the past (purposefully and/or without malice or ill-intent), have violated other people’s boundaries (purposefully and/or without malice or ill-intent), have violated their own boundaries (purposefully and/or without malice or ill-intent) and generally don’t know what it feels like to really experience healthy boundaries in relationship with others (or with themselves).   [Read more…] about Growing a Well-Boundaried Life
