Falling Into Busy

March 11, 2019 By Tara Moorman, PhD

Here’s some transparency.

Sometimes I get busy.  It starts innocently enough.  I need to take a new client on a day that I usually reserve for me-time, or more likely, at least in my case, I decide to take a class – something that will just be a couple hours once a week for a couple months.  That’s how I look at it. It’s just a little time for a while.  Then, when I’m not looking, I get a new client.  Then a really cool opportunity to work with a certain group pops up, and again, it’s only a little time for a little while.  In the middle of that little while, something else pops up.  I tell myself, “well, this other thing that I’ve already been doing for a bit will be over in a few minutes, hours or days, and then this new thing that I added won’t be anything big at all.  It’ll just be another a little time for a little while.

And on and on and on. [Read more…] about Falling Into Busy

The Art of Stopping

December 3, 2018 By Tara Moorman, PhD

“We have to learn the art of stopping — stopping our thinking, our habit energies, our forgetfulness, the strong emotions that rule us…When we are mindful, touching deeply the present moment, the fruits are always understanding, acceptance, love, and the desire to relieve suffering and bring joy.” Thich Nhat Hanh, The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching.

I discovered The Honolulu Mindfulness Community back in 2003, after completing my Master’s program in Counseling Psychology.  My favorite professor had introduced me to the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, and after graduation I went on a search for like minded folks. Wake up in this Moment: Part 2

November 26, 2018 By Tara Moorman, PhD

Ok. So I hope that you’ve given yourself the opportunity to wake up in the present moment and find the serenity that lives there. If you haven’t quite found the serenity part, I’m going to posit that you’re mind is still being a sneaky dreamer. It’s still pulling strands of the past and future into your awareness and has you believing that it’s real and true in the present moment. Keep working at this. You’ll catch your mind’s sneaky business if you keep at it. [Read more…] about Wake up in this Moment: Part 2

Wake Up in This Moment: Part 1

November 26, 2018 By Tara Moorman, PhD

Clock
I don’t know about you, but I spend a lot of time in a dream state – and not because I’m curled up in my comfy bed snoozing (I LOVE true sleep SO much!). I spend a lot of time dreaming about the past and the future. My mind flies toward sparkly nuggets of past conversations and events, and it also likes to wander into the future looking for interesting little jewels of possibility. The Key is Inside. It’s Called Choice

November 19, 2018 By Tara Moorman, PhD

“The strongest principle of growth lies in the human choice.” —George Elliot

Y’all! I can get so stuck. I mean, I can get so wound up in my own head about changes I want to make and things I want to do that I find myself paralyzed. Sitting there staring at my closet (My closet is at the foot of my bed making it the center of my visual universe late at night when I’m stuck in the middle of the big Overwhelm) and doing absolutely nothing else. Well, I’m not doing anything in the Real World anyway. Nothing but sitting and staring. And breathing. Thank goodness I don’t have to think about breathing! [Read more…] about The Key is Inside.
